The German abbreviation "WABE" stands for "Wohnen, Arbeiten, Betreuen und Entwickeln" ("living, working, caring and developing"). Based in Hamburg, the association is an accredited provider of child and youth welfare services, a member of the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband (Federation of German Welfare Associations) in Hamburg, Hessen and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and a member of the Forum Sozial e.V. social services organisation in Schleswig-Holstein. The association is non-partisan and non-denominational and recognised as a non-profit charitable organization.
WABE e.V. provides care to about 2,900 children in 24 day care centres in the German states of Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Hessen and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Our International School Campus in Pinneberg-Thesdorf opened in early September 2016. At three other school locations, WABE e.V. is a co-operation partner involved in the all-day school programme, providing on-site care for about 800 pupils in the "all-day school" ("Ganztagsschule"), "all-day care at schools" ("ganztägige Betreuung an Schulen") and "open all day school" ("Offene Ganztagsschule") models.
